What has changed

Here is a Wordle.net image showing what’s changed from the NIV of 1984 to the new version of the NIV, coming out in 2011. The bigger the word, the more times it was removed. You can come to your own conclusions.

  1. I would say that if you are using the old NIV and you don’t want to change to another translation, go ahead and keep using it. But, I wouldn’t encourage getting this new NIV that will be coming out next year. There are too many changes in it that really impact the meaning of the text. They seem to have gone from translating the text to interpreting the text as they translate it, and interpreting in ways that specifically remove meaning in relation to manhood – gender neutral and politically correct.
If you are looking for a new translation, the ESV reads well and is translated well. That’s my preference.
